Supervisor Tracey Schultz Kobylarz

Supervisor  Tracey Schultz Kobylarz is the first woman elected to serve our community as Township Supervisor.  She began her term of service on November 20, 2008 at a time when housing markets were crashing, people were losing their homes and the economic loss to the township was devastating the general fund.  While many people would have thrown up their hands, she rolled up her sleeves and started to work.

Faced with unprecedented revenue loss Supervisor Schultz Kobylarz has taken a proactive and open approach to budgeting and financing.  She actively engaged department leaders, employees, union groups and the community at large through budget study sessions and utilization of social media tools.  Her approach has provided creative venues that are critically important to our residents and provide for better collaboration and cooperation.  These processes are labor and emotionally intensive work, they are essential in order to identify and incorporate cost savings ideas, revenue generators and key services.  Everyone has the opportunity to engage and be involved.

Supervisory Tracey Schultz Kobylarz is constantly in touch with residents and members of the business community to ensure that their needs are being met.  She is available to meet with you 1:1 or at a special group meetings.  Tracey is also an advocate of social media technology and can be easily contacted through Facebook and LinkedIn.  Her personal and professional mission is to be accessible to you, in ways that are easy for you, and at times that works for you.

Being the chief elected official in a community of 50,000 people is an honor and a privilege.  Tracey never forgets that it is the work of the people she is carrying out and is actively engaged in community events and programs.  It is not usual to see Supervisor Kobylarz welcome the Arch Bishop of the Orthodox Church in the evening after throwing out the first pitch at a Little League opening game, reading to students and donating books to each elementary school in the township, singing Karaoke at the township festivals, enjoying a meal at a local diner or celebrating her faith in one of the many places of worship. She lives by the motto she often quotes that Redford Township is a great place to live, work, play, worship and learn. Spend a few minutes with her and she will have you convinced that you are a member of an incredible community.

Tracey has lived in Redford Township for more than 50 years and is a proud graduate of Redford Union High School and Central Michigan University.  She is a Certified Citizen Planner and Michigan Political Leadership Program Fellow from Michigan State University in addition to being a graduate of the Michigan Township Association's Governance Academy.  Prior to being elected as Trustee in 2004, Tracey was appointed to serve on the Zoning Board of Appeals.  The years spent on the ZBA gave Tracey a solid background in zoning, building and planning issues.  Supervisor Tracey Schultz Kobylarz has two incredible kids, Alex and Amy. She is also the proud "grandma" of two fur babies, Cupcake and Donut.
